According to the title page, the sermon was first given in 1650 at the Grand Temple of the Reformed Church of Montpellier. The timing of this printing some 15 years later must have been connected with the increasingly oppressive treatment of Protestants under the reign of Louis XIV, leading up to the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. It is interesting to note that the first salutation in the preface to the present work, addressed to the those "taking possession" of the reformed religion, was censored by an early owner.

We find no copies of this work on OCLC or in any of the usual bibliographies, and just one record at auction, which sold at Christie's in 1996 as part of a group of works related to witchcraft.
