Scarce Carrolliana
(CARROLL, Lewis). WINKFIELD, Trevor (Editor). The Lewis Carroll Circular. Nos. 1 & 2 (all published). (Leeds: Trevor Winkfield, 1973-74) [50] leaves, printed on rectos only; [ii], 74, [2] pp. (278 x 215 mm.) No. 47 of 60 copies (vol. I); No. 50 of 60 copies (vol. II). Original white printed wrappers, stapled as issued. First volume with three facsimile leaves and one photographic reproduction on glossy paper; second volume with 11 facsimile pages and one in-text illustration. Signed by Winkfield on the colophon. Wrappers a little soiled, second volume sunned along edge of lower wrapper, contents excellent.
A thoroughly delightful and idiosyncratic publication edited by British poet, artist, and Carroll enthusiast, Trevor Winkfield.
Described as "An occasional publication of hitherto scarce, unpublished or 'lost' Carrolliana," the series contains a potpourri of Carroll's word and number games, poetry, letters, musings, and other toothsome tidbits. These were the only two issues Winkfield ever published (in an edition of 60 copies each), making them quite hard to find on the market. (1021)
