A Mexican Ballerino Returns Home

(PERFORMING ARTS). (MEXICO). (RUBIN, Pedro). [Program for a recital starring ballet dancer Pedro Rubin]. ([Mexico]: n.p., ca. 1930) [4] pp. (230 x 155 mm.)   With illustrations and photographic reproductions. Light soiling and creases, two small tape repairs along edges.

Featuring a fabulous image of the Mexican ballerino dressed in a fanciful Aztec costume.

Pedro Rubin was a prominent Mexican dancer who was featured in Florenz Ziegfeld's famous 1927 operetta Rio Rita, and was hired as Ballet Master for the Folies-Bergère in Paris. The present program suggests that he was little known in Mexico, owing to the fact that the majority of his career was spent in the United States and abroad. Supporting dancers for this recital were supplied by Miss [Lettie] Carroll, a pioneering dance instructor who emigrated to Mexico City in the 1920s.  (1169)
