Supporting Prison Families
(PRISONS). (SOCIAL JUSTICE). Connections Newsletter. Vol 1, No. 6. (San Francisco: Connections Guidance Center, 12 October 1970) 6 pp. (279 x 212 mm.) Stapled as issued. Small nick on edge of first leaf, paper toned, otherwise excellent.
Scarce issue of a newsletter advocating for the rights of prisoners and their families.
Published by the Connections Guidance Center in San Francisco between 1970-73, the "Connections" newsletter served the families of prisoners in the surrounding area (such as San Quentin, Soledad, and Vacaville) sharing relevant news stories, getting the word out about grassroots movements, and promoting legal and financial resources. The present issue contains information on a benefit fund for the Soledad Brothers (three black men accused of murdering a prison guard in 1970), efforts to build a prison library, female ex-cons seeking to open a storefront to sell arts and crafts made by prisoners, unconstitutional hearings inside San Quentin, and more.
