(TRAVEL). (DESIGN). Ten hotel luggage labels (and one duplicate) from Japan, Java, and India. (ca. 1920s-40s) Eleven items total. (All measuring under 125 x 190 mm.)   Some printed in multiple colors, three with photographic reproductions.  All in fine condition.

A fantastic collection of colorful luggage labels from the Golden Age of Travel, showcasing early 20th century typography and advertising aesthetics from hotels catering to Western tastes.

Luggage tags were a common part of high-end hotel service from the early 1900s through the 1960s. Both advertisement and souvenir, these labels would normally be pasted directly onto the rigid suitcases of hotel guests. The present collection of 11 labels, however, are in near perfect condition, and clearly have never been used.
